With Over One Million
Original ActiveHome Units Sold, Huge Customer Demand for New Release
SEATTLE, WA--(MARKET WIRE)--Oct 1,
2004 -- X10 Wireless Technology, Inc. today announced the
much-anticipated release of the ActiveHome Pro Remote Control System for
the home. Years of customer feedback has resulted in a kit that is
affordable, technologically sophisticated and features a comfortable
plug and play design for the Do-It-Yourself market.
Remote control of lights and
appliances is not only cool but incredibly convenient for those of us
seeking the modern digital home. Imagine all inside and outside lights,
sprinklers, fountains and almost any other appliance imaginable working
automatically in concert with each other to provide the ultimate in
safety, comfort and fun. Not to mention the practical benefits of
arriving home in the dark to a well-lit property without leaving lights
on all day wasting electricity.
“Now that it's fall, I was worried
about my wife and kids coming home every night to a pitch black home and
driveway,” said Jeff from Seattle. “With no prior experience, I was
seeking a do-it-yourself solution. The ActiveHome Pro was incredibly fun
and easy to use. With only Internet and Microsoft Office experience, I
was able to automate all of the evening lights inside and outside of my
home within minutes. Before I knew it, the instructions were downloaded
and plugged into a wall outlet. Now the lights automatically turn on and
off when I want them too, and my PC doesn’t even need to be running. Not
only did I feel like a junior programmer, but I now have the piece of
mind that my family is safe at home by themselves after dark. It’s so
cool that I find myself searching for other lights/appliances to add to
my system.”
History/Industry Standard
The X10 Powerline Carrier protocol
was created in the late 70’s and continues to be the industry’s defacto
standard for remotely controlling lights and appliances using X10
modules that send on/off commands through a homes existing power lines.
Over the last 30-some years, the
company has developed and sold millions of units, not only under the X10
brand name but also as an OEM for major consumer electronic companies
such as IBM, Phillips, Magnavox and Radio Shack.
In the mid-90’s, X10 introduced
the first PC-based home control kit called ActiveHome, enabling
programmed routines to execute automatically through a serial port
interface module plugged into a power outlet. Since then, over one
million units have been sold. Much to the delight of these customers,
the company has released a much-anticipated upgrade kit called
ActiveHome Pro, highlighted by an amazingly functional tiny white whole
house transceiver box with built-in RF and a USB connection combined
with newly-designed control software.
The basic concept is simple. Plug
control modules/switches into lights and appliances, assign each one a
house code/unit code such as A1, and insert the module into a wall
outlet/switch box. Boot up the ActiveHome software, and enter the fun
and colorful world of X10’s computer-based remote control. From here,
the possibilities are virtually endless.
New USB Interface
The new USB computer interface
with built-in RF whole house transceiver can send and receive all 256
house/unit codes and even control X10 cameras. The well-designed, clean
looking transceiver box will also soon be able to monitor X10 home
surveillance cameras, provide remote control via the Internet or cell
phone and even run if/then routines, commonly called Conditional Macros.
Creating
Rooms/Routines/Schedules
The newly-designed software uses
drag and drop commands to label, organize and view by room all X10
control modules. Within minutes you can create for example an Evening
Lights tab, and then create Macros grouped Inside Lights On and Inside
Lights Off. Click on Timers to easily schedule lights and their
brightness level based on dusk and dawn, day of week, holidays, etc.
Better yet, forget about the timers. Using the built-in Lifestyle Mode,
the software will automatically record when you turn lights on or off
using a controller during a typical 24 hour day. Just download your
instructions into the computer interface and turn off your machine. Your
timers and routines will operate automatically year round.
Mission
“X10’s goal is to transform the
computer into a home platform using ActiveHome Pro software as the
mother ship,” said Alex Peder, President, X10 Wireless Technology, Inc.
“In a first of its kind effort for the company, we will offer
independent software developers the chance to join with X10 to develop
and sell additional plug-in applications. This effort will even include
a certification process and marketing support to sell the products.
ActiveHome Pro is the answer to seamlessly integrate and control all of
our popular systems for wireless surveillance, automation and
entertainment.”
