How Easy Is It?

Lets say you want to control bathroom lights so they have different light levels based on the time of day. After all, who want to be blinded by bright lights in the middle of the night! With a Smart Macro, you'll be able to quickly build a macro that reacts differently based on the time of day.

More specifically, we want to build a Smart Macro that will use a motion sensor as a trigger in a bathroom. If the time is between 11:00PM and 6:00AM, if someone triggers the motion sensor, the Smart Macro will execute and only turn on the bathroom lights to 50%. Any other time of the day, the lights will turn on to 100%.

Step 1

In this example, start a new Macro. Select a room from the right-side drop down containing the device you want control. In this example, we've selected the bathroom. Then drag a Wall Sconce module into the macro editor window.

Set the brightness slider to 50%. This is what will actually happen when the macro is triggered.

Step 2
Click the Use Condition button located above the summary section on the Macro Designer page.

This will expand the layout of the Macro Editor to reveal the Smart Macros editor and the conditional modules in the right column.

Step 3
Select and drag the Condition Module you want this Macro to use. In this case, we want to control a range of time, so we select the "Time Range" module.

Place the module on the "Drop Conditions Here" target.

Step 4
On the new Time Range module, click the edit button.

Here you set the time range that the Macro will function. Select between 11:00 pm and 6:00 am in this example.

Step 5
Program the motion sensor that you intend to use in the bathroom with the trigger assigned. The trigger is the house and unit code that starts the macro. If an address is already assigned to a motion sensor, change the trigger to the same house and unit code. 

Step 6
This Smart Macro is ready to use. Between the times of 11:00 pm and 6:00 am, if the someone walks into the bathroom, the lights will only turn on to 50%.

But, what if we want the lights to turn on at full brightness any other time?

Step 7
To add the second condition, click the Else button. The Else button is located above the text summary. This will change the layout to include a tab for your second condition. You can click Else to add as many addition condition you need. Tabs are linked to indicate the conditions that share the same trigger.

Step 8
Add the bathroom wall sconce and Time Range Conditional Module in the same manner as in steps 1 through 3 and set to 100% brightness. 

Click the Time Range edit button and this time, set it to a range between 6:00 am and 11:00 pm.

There You've Got It!
You created a Smart Macro. Now, when motion is detected in the bathroom, ActiveHome Pro will automatically turn on the wall sconce to 50% brightness between the hours of 11:00 pm and 6:00 am and 100% at all other times.

It's really that easy!
